Milli ~ werewolf plot - Mission Reports

Mission Report

Week One

Travel has been slow and difficult. I'm finding that horseback is almost preferable to rail, given the difficulties in procuring accomdations for Beowulf.

Week Two

Upon my arrival in a small Bavarian village, I asked about the werewolf, only to have my inquiries met with fear and scathing glances. Oddly, Beowulf's presence earned the same.

One would assume that a village plagued by werewolf attacks would welcome someone willing to address the problem. Guess not.

I did manage to procure a new horse and continue my search. I had been given a small piece of information from the town cleric, though even he seemed less than eager to help. By the way, the Order should send him a small donation for his aid.

Week Three

Several more days of travel led me to a small cave, high in the hills. I found nothing there, initially, but when I returned the following evening, a werewolf was just leaving the den. I followed on foot, instructing Beowulf to keep behind me and attack only when necessary.

The werewolf seemed set on returning to the nearby village. That, I could not allow, so I sent Beowulf to attract the werewolf's attention back in my direction.

With the beast charging, I stood ready to fire silver bullets into its chest. But, the clouds shifted to hide the moon and the wolf melted away, revealing a woman beneath, in tattered rags. I moved to offer her my coat, but she instructed me not to, saying that she had no need for it… or modesty. Her choice.

She knew who I was - by reputation - and begged me to kill her. She begged me, screaming that it was the only way. That she had killed so many, unable to stop, despite her efforts. She told me she had tried many things, but nothing had worked. The best she could do was move away from civilization, but the wolf seemed to always find a way back.

I wanted to help her, but there was nothing I could do.

She continued to beg me to kill her. I couldn't do that. Not while she was human. I know I should be able to, knowing what she was, but I could not.

Since I wouldn't, she said she would tell me something before the moon reappeared. There is another werewolf. Someone she had bitten, she couldn't remember when, in a nearby village. She wasn't sure if he was from the village or part of a band of traders passing through.

She didn't have a chance to tell me more. The moon emerged and the transformation took her. Beowulf heeded my calls to stay back while I fought. She attacked, I fired, the bullets made contact and took her down. The woman appeared once more and thanked me. She said I had saved her and that she was sorry she had to injure me.

I gave her body a proper burial in the cave and had it sealed.

My injuries were not substantial enough to warrant seeking medical aid. And I needed to locate this other werewolf before the next full moon.
