He's left instructions with the bar to deliver them after he's gone.

Van Helsing generally leaves letters for his friends when he leaves the bar, his mun has just been too lazy to spend time writing them out each time b/c they'd generally say about the same thing – 'going for a while, back when I can be; I'll miss you…' etc etc… so, not much sense in writing them up each time. And he doesn’t know he'll be gone for good, so these letters are similar to what they would be, but with a bit more feeling b/c he wouldn't let me write them any other way and they won't appear until after he's gone.


Nick,

I'm taking my leave yet again and hope to see you well if I should return. I'm more than aware that my return to this place is completely dependent on the whims of some higher power, be it God or devil. Either way, I never take my visits here for granted. And though you frequently irritate me to no end, I'm grateful for the friendship we have. It's not something I take lightly, as it's not something I've known in the past. (Which should explain to you why I get so angry when you, in the words of many I've met here, 'fuck something up'.)

I trust you more than I trust many of the people I know and I am glad we've moved beyond our initial assessments and been able to form this friendship. And as your friend, I'm asking you to do one thing for me, if you are intending to maintain your relationship with Alex, please hold the ceremony again. The church may never recognize your union, but your friends will and as much as it pains me to say such, I cannot recognize what was previously performed as your wedding. That wasn't you and all involved deserve to know that you are the man declaring your love for Alex and not the demon that had control of your body and mind. This is my one request to you.

With this letter, you will find another that I ask you to read should you decide to renew your union with Alex. It's what I would have said before had I felt I could have done so in good conscience.

Dearest Natalie,

You are the light in the darkness of my life. You've taught me so much and you never fail to amaze me or make me smile. That, in itself, makes this so much harder to write. I've told no one else, but I have a strong feeling that when I leave, I may not be able to return. I have this feeling nearly every time I leave, yet this time, the feeling is stronger somehow. This, of course, does not mean that I will never return, but it also does not mean that I can remain here indefinitely. I have work I must do and work that is important to me.

Never feel that you are not also important to me, for you are, more than I can express in simple words. I miss you when I'm gone and should the day come that I cannot return, I will miss you more. I love you, Natalie and that's something I've not been able to express to anyone before and for that opportunity, I thank you. I don't know what else to say to you that I haven't already said. Take care of Nick, he'll need it.

Lock, Shock and Barrell,

She reads the note when it's delivered a bit sad that he's gone. "Be well, my brother." She kisses the note and slips it between her corset and dress, intending to put it somewhere safe when she gets back to her room.
