Title: These Are All That I Have
Fandom: Stephen Sommers' Van Helsing
Character: Gabriel Van Helsing
Theme set: Gamma
Disclaimer: Van Helsing - the movie and the character - belong to Stephen Sommers and Universal Pictures; neither belong to me; I am only using them shamelessly for my own personal pleasure.
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Van Helsing, for some reason, decided to respond to each of the prompts in first person - almost playing it like a word-association game. If they should be in third person, I can re-do the theme set.
#01 - Snow
She said nothing was faster than Transylvanian horses; she failed to mention that nothing was colder than Transylvanian snow - in my face.
#02 - Child
"Do you have to be such a child about everything, Dracula?"
#03 - Brick
Hard, stone steps against tender naked skin and little strength or breath to carry me farther than I am.
#04 - Judgment
"How dare you judge me or my actions, Jinette!"
#05 - Powder
Should I tell Carl he has a little something on his nose?
#06 - Grim
The weather and the outlook of this particular assignment are nothing short of grim.
#07 - Trap
An open door, a well-lit room, complete silence and I'm supposed to think it's not a trap?
#08 - Star
There is only one bright-shining body in the heavens tonight; may it be enough to guide us.
#09 - Possession
"He's mine!" I yell again, scowling heavily.
#10 - Bandage
"Thank you," I tell him; this is the fourth time this week he's had to wrap a wound or remove a bullet.
#11 - Pearl
Yes, thank you, keep away from the nasty ones with the teeth, I appreciate your input, Carl.
#12 - Glass
"Through that window!"
#13 - Classified
Classified as: evil; dispatch as quickly as possible; no soul to redeem.
#14 - Buttons
On the vest, the buttons are done up; on the coat, they're not; it's all about style and ease of movement.
#15 - Closet
The locked box in which all of my memories reside for the day I hold the key.
#16 - Ash
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Requiescat in Pace.
#17 - Definition
A man defined, not by his words, but by his actions.
#18 - Staircase
At the top lies the greatest enemy I have ever faced.
#19 - Nail
I make one last strike and the coffin is sealed; Dracula shall never rise again.
#20 - Prey
I am the prey and also the one seeking it.
#21 - Backwards
Are we not moving backwards if you're now asking me to kill without capture?
#22 - Trouble
"Yeah, we're in trouble."
#23 - Little
Sometimes, every now-and-again, I wish there was more to it than that; just a little bit more.
#24 - Collar
Chained to this place with a collar of memories locked 'round my throat until I've fulfilled their wishes.
#25 - Circle
From one death to the other, I killed him once only to find he'd returned to try the same to me.
#26 - Hands
Hands strong enough to crush, yet gentle enough to caress.
#27 - Freedom
I can only hope, one day, to know freedom well enough to define it.
#28 - Last
I want him not only to be the first, but also the last.
#29 - Scab
Wounds, scabs, scars - these are all that I have.
#30 - Crown
I recall telling Carl, as we left Buckingham Palace, to be glad we did not work for the Crown.
#31 - Time
Time is one of two things I seem to have plenty of; unanswered questions is the other.
#32 - Rice
I ran through the end of a wedding once, got rice in my hair - and my hat.
#33 - Worn
Worn and battle-weary, I returned to my chamber at the Vatican for some sleep.
#34 - Paint
I believe I ran with him, painting the town in blood.
#35 - Ache
There's an ache inside where I know he belongs, only I don't know how to tell him.
#36 - Cherry
I know this tree, this particular cherry tree, has importance; however, I can't remember why.
#37 - Library
I find him there, almost every evening, and watch him read, work, study from a corner where I know he won't see me.
#38 - Win
No matter how hard I try, I fear that, in the end, I will not be the one who wins.
#39 - Loss
I have known more loss in seven years than anyone I have met who's lived for many more than that.
#40 - Fold
I've kept this letter for so long, the fold is beginning to wear thin.
#41 - Music
Through the cathedral, along the nave, I could hear the music of the organ; the hymns echoing against the walls.
#42 - Bell
Every time a bell tolls midnight, I expect it to happen again - the beast to be set free and roar into violence and vengeance.
#43 - Sleep
Fifty-two hours without sleep and yet I still cannot stop to rest; I must find him.
#44 - Contact
Even the briefest contact with him sends shivers down my spine.
#45 - Electricity
I can recall being fascinated with the sheer amounts of electricity required to power Dracula's machine, but only briefly as other matters were far more important.
#46 - Milk
Carl once instructed me to drink goat's milk as a remedy; he quickly learned not to make such a suggestion a second time.
#47 - Wild
The werewolf that was once inside me was wild and fierce and wishing to be free.
#48 - Expectation
Their expectations of me are frequently higher than I feel they should be - yet I frequently tend to exceed them.
#49 - Mechanism
An hour to explain the trigger mechanism to me and two minutes to demonstrate the weapon's firepower; sometimes I love him.
#50 - Finale
He's told me to be ready, to prepare, but if this is it, the big finale, I'm still not sure if I know where I'm going.
